"This brooch is part of my Tidepool Series, in which each work includes an enameled dome containing felted wool. This form is reminiscent of various organisms seen in tide pools, the first environment where I began to closely observe the visual details of the natural world. Many pieces in this series also reference other natural environments via abstractions of form and color. This work encompasses several of those - space (the glass balls), the forest (petrified wood - also alluding to time), and, of course, the tide pools." - Shannon Lucas
